Episode 094:

Angela Naumann is a boymom, bookie nerd, and amateur wine taster. After 20+ years of her own entrepreneurial and personal growth journey, she became a life coach for women that sometimes needed a “Yoda” in their life.

She helps the female entrepreneur that is stressed out, not getting stuff done, wondering how to balance life while not be a moody witch.  With a practical step by step plan, she guides you to renew your mind, build confidence, and balance life so that you can stop stressing and get stuff done, feel stronger, and more confident as you show the world you do have what it takes.

Takeaways:

  • Angela talks about how her mindset was holding her back. She sat at a table of people making way more money than her and she wondered why that wasn’t her. She hired a coach and he wanted to know if she really enjoyed what she was doing. She really started discovering she loved the coaching side of things. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves those tough questions in our business so we can become the entrepreneur we really want to be!
  • Our mindset is an onion: you have to keep peeling back the layers. You can choose what to believe, and what thoughts you allow yourself to have.
  • To manage your thoughts at a high level, you have to have a higher attitude: Confidence, empowerment, etc.
  • A bad mindset can manifest into all aspects of your business and your personal life. Angela talks about how she was afraid of these feelings of discomfort or overwhelm. She figured her business should have been easier than it was – but once she had that mindset shift everything changed.
  • Let’s talk taking time off. This is something Angela stresses. You NEED to be energized, focused, and recharged enough to actually be able to practice success habits.
  • Clutter: You have to address it before you’re in the mindset to do business. That mess in your house, fix it first. Your phone, put it away. You will never be able to focus when you sit in those clutters.
  • When you’re feeling stuck, here are Angela’s 4 key tips:
    • Get rid of the clutter around you
    • Get really clear on what it is you want, and why you want it
    • Set really specific goals (big goals, and broken down goals)
    • Move yourself from passive action to massive actions
  • Angela says you have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. She says the way we build confidence starts with courage. We have to be able to step outside of what is comfortable to be able to do things. Angela says you need to STEP OUT on courage. The more you do these things, the more you become capable and build these skill sets.
  • Qualities of high performers Angela has seen:
    • They manage their time
    • They manage their thoughts
    • They get ISH done
    • They prioritize their energy
  • Visualize what you want. Not just the end game. Visualize all those aspects of your business and your dream. Visualize every action that it takes to be successful. And ENJOY IT!!

10 Common Habits of Highly Successful People

10 Common Habits of Highly Successful People

Today I wanted to talk about 10 common habits of highly successful people.

I’m obsessed with studying successful people. What is it about them that makes them successful?

Some people just seem to achieve all their goals–effortlessly.

Is it luck?

Are they just amazing?

Chances are, they’ve developed some killer habits over the years that have lead to their massive success.

Let’s jump into the 10 habits of successful people.

Habits of Successful People #1: Wake up early

The world’s most successful people have specific morning routines and wake up before the rest of the world.

I am obsessed with my morning routine and got so many questions about it I did a whole other blog about it.

Wanna learn more about creating a killer morning routine? I got you covered =)

Book to read: The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

One of my tricks is to put on my headphones and listen to a motivational video as I’m getting out of bed. It always puts me in the right state of mind.

Habits of Successful People #2: Set Goals and Write Them Down

I remember learning in college about a Harvard MBA study. The study found that the 3% of graduates who had written down their goals earned 10 times more than the other 97% who didn’t only 10 years after graduation.

That motivated me to start writing down my goals =)

That year (I think it was sophomore or junior year) I wrote down some crazy stuff that’s happened since:

  • Study abroad (lived in Kenya the following year and got 18 A+ credits toward my major)
  • Get my Masters (graduated with my MSW from the George Warren School of Social Work)
  • Learn how to salsa dance (ended up teaching it too and had a freaking blast)

You get the picture. Ever since I’ve had clearly defined and written goals and it is WILD to go back and read things that have happened.

Create goals and write them down.

I’ve learned a ton about goal setting from the master, Tony Robbins.

Habits of Successful People #3: Workout

You might not know my first business was actually in fitness…I played volleyball for 10 years and was a fitness instructor.

Yet I still don’t love working out and rarely feel ‘motivated’ to workout.

I do it anyway because I love how I feel when I’m done and I know that when I workout I have more energy, mental clarity, and strength, which will help me to be a better mom and entrepreneur.

A trick that’s helped me lately is to wake up EARLY (5 am) and immediately listen to a motivational video as I get ready to workout first thing.

I’m done by 6 am before life has the ability to ‘get in the way’, which always happens if I put off my workout until later.

Try it =)

Habits of Successful People #4: Meditate

I always felt weird about meditating. I’m goal oriented (obvi) and sitting still seemed like a waste of time.

But I kept hearing about the benefits and more and more of my mentors shared how it was benefiting them.

So I tried it.

I think the best benefit for me is just the mental clarity that comes from being still. I get some awesome ideas during that time.

If you’re brand new, there are some great apps that can guide you through the meditation.

Calm

Headspace

Abide (Christian)

This guided one from Tony Robbins is one of my faves.

Habits of Successful People #5: Prioritize

Successful people know how to keep the main thing the main thing. They focus on the needle movers–the few tasks that will greatly impact your bottom line.

Here’s a tip:

  • Do a massive brain dump of all the things that need to get done in your business.
  • Circle all the things you can delegate to someone else.
  • Star the few things that will either bring you more revenue right away or help you build your email list.

Everything else? It’s busy work and can wait. You don’t need to update your website for the millionth time or order business cards.

Get real work done and prioritize =)

“Most people fail in life because they major in minor things.” – Tony Robbins

Book to read: The One Thing

Check out this video from Brendon Burchard about prioritizing.

Habits of Successful People #6: Learn/Grow Continuously

“Your income will be a direct reflection of your level of personal growth.”

I wish I could remember who said that–but I heard it in my early 20s and decided growth wouldn’t be optional.

Every year I uplevel.

I attend new events (upcoming it’s HeartCore Leadership and Business Mastery).

I invest in coaches who will push me.

I read and listen to audiobooks daily.

I heard Tony Robbins say that you’re either growing or you’re dying and it’s true.

Choose to pursue growth on a continual basis.

One of my fave books is John Maxwell’s Intentional Growth. In this video, he shares his laws of growth.

Habits of Successful People #7: Surround Themselves with Positivity

The most successful people know that they’re the sum of the 5 people they’re closest to.

Take a look at your inner circle. Are they where you aspire to be?

If not, it’s time to make new friends.

Did you know Will Smith posts short motivational videos on Instagram and Youtube? I love them. This one does have a few inappropriate words in them so if you have littles near you beware =)

Habits of Successful People #8: Minimize Distractions

We live in a world that is FULL of distractions.

Social media, email, text messages…

A life where you can be instantly connected to the world through your phone.

If you’re not careful, you’ll end up wasting a ton of time. Every time you hear your phone ding you lose your focus and those minutes of lost focus add up to tons of wasted hours every day.

The most successful people in the world have 24 hours in a day, the same as you.

They’ve learned how to minimize distractions.

You can too!

What helps me minimize distractions:

  • Turn off all notifications on your phone and keep it in another room while you’re working.
  • Close out of all other browsers while working
  • Set a timer for an hour and focus on one thing for that entire hour. Then get up when the timer goes off, move around, and repeat.

Book to read: High-Performance Habits

Habits of Successful People #9: Unplug

I make sure all my clients have entire days where they’re unplugged. If you don’t take at least a day off every week, it’s so easy to get burned out.

I know you’re a goal driven, focused girl with big things to do! But having a day off will help you re-energize and have even more focus when you come back.

Just trust me on this one =)

In this video, Brendon Burchard will share the secrets to unplugging.

Habits of Successful People #10: Track/Measure

In the Compound Effect, Darren Hardy says,

“All winners are trackers”.

Whatever it is that you want to improve, start tracking it.

What you measure you improve upon.

In our business, we track:

  • Income
  • Expenses
  • Profit
  • Email list #
  • Traffic
  • FB group numbers
  • IG followers
  • FB page
  • Webinar conversion rate
  • Cost per lead

There’s probably more =) But start with the core things you want to grow.

Woot! I know that’s a lot of habits. What I suggest you do is pick ONE that you want to start right away.

Master that one.

Then a month later, pick your next habit and master it.

Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to having wildly successful habits which will help you create an insanely impactful business.

Question: Do you have any of these habits? Which one will you start with?

Protecting Your Business (with Lawyer Kailey Jacomet): Episode 093

Protecting Your Business (with Lawyer Kailey Jacomet): Episode 093

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link on this blog. I would never recommend a product I don’t use or love myself!

Today I brought in an EXPERT at keeping businesses secure. She knows the ins and outs of trademarking, copywriting, etc. I brought in Kailey Jacomet, who teaches us how to protect our brands. Take some notes, and enjoy!

Takeaways:

  • Kailey talks about her first 100 ideas for coming up with a job didn’t pan out. Some of them didn’t even have to do with the law. But it was through those mis-steps that she got to where she is today. It’s not always the first idea we have that will lead us to success. But the path of how we get there brings us on a journey for a reason.
  • Trademarks are protected for not only for matches, but like matches that could confuse the consumer. Kailey says that before you brand and promote yourself, you have to check that your brand doesn’t infringe on other trademarks- because then all that time and money will go to waste.
  • Kailey says that sometimes business owners overlook trademarking, when it’s actually a really important step. Entrepreneurs should start thinking of intellectual property as adding value to your business. Your intellectual property can be licensed.
  • Kailey talks about using photos for personal vs. commercial use. She sees people making this mistake for intellectual property rights often. You can not use an image that someone else owns unless they gave you a limited license, or if they gave you written consent.
  • Contracts are a must. To be unclear is to be unkind. Kailey talks about how important it is to be upfront with every client as to what is expected, and what needs to be done in what time frame. Writing a contract becomes a reference when things stray off the agreement.
  • Terms of use on a website is so important. It is how you set age restrictions, 13 and under, that protects yourself from trouble. Privacy policies are also so important!
  • Kailey says that to her, making an impact means doing the inner work of making people leave interacting with you more hopeful, and excited for life. She also says that taking calculated risks is so key. Take risks and be bold!

Highlights:

  • (1:29) A little more about Kailey, Brand Law Boutique, and Contract-ista!
  • (5:47) Trademarks- what do we have to do to protect our brands
  • (11:23) Can you hire someone to do your trademarking? Or can you do it on your own?
  • (12:42) How much filing a trademark this cost?
  • (13:50) Why Legal Zoom is not a good idea?
  • (15:27) How to know what to trademark? Name, business, goods?
  • (18:25) Cease and desist.
  • (19:04) Trademarking different products.
  • (22:01) Biggest mistakes Kailey sees people making in trademarking and copywriting.
  • (25:48) Why you need an agreement when using a ghostwriter or freelancer to make an ebook. What that means for your sales if you don’t have a signed agreement.
  • (26:43) When someone steals your work, or photos.
  • (28:50) Contracts- what you should have in a contract, and why they are so important.
  • (30:45) Clauses you MUST have in your contracts.
  • (31:56) What do you need on your website? Terms of Use.
  • (35:30) The best book Kailey has ever read.
  • (38:52) What does it mean to Kailey to make an impact?
  • (40:29) What’s next for Kailey?
  • (42:40 Where to connect with Kailey Jacomet.

Quotes:

“Entrepreneurs should start thinking of intellectual property as adding value to your business.”“To be unclear is to be unkind.”“Success comes from having an actual good idea that you actually implement well.”

Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship (with Tara Counterman): Episode 092

Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship (with Tara Counterman): Episode 092

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link on this blog. I would never recommend a product I don’t use or love myself!

Takeaways:

  • Tara talks about how when she had kids, she put herself on a shelf. She totally lost sight of what it meant to be fulfilled, and that led her to what she wanted to do, and who she wanted to help. She wanted to help moms in her position to realize their dreams were worth fulfilling.
  • Stepping outside of the box. Tara says sometimes what you need is permission to step outside of the box. A lot of times as entrepreneurs, guilt sometimes follows, especially with being a mama. But by being a part of the Impact Blogging Academy, Tara talked about how she was given permission to be the entrepreneur she wanted to be, which gave her the confidence to show up as herself.
  • Mindset is one topic Tara sees so many mompreneurs struggling with. Sometimes in today’s society, moms are told they have to serve everyone else and not give themselves time and energy too. Tara explains that this limiting belief is a direct link from not giving ourselves that self care.
  • Take an inventory of what your priorities are. Tara shares that you need to step away sometimes. Don’t spend all day in your office with constant disruptions. Sometimes you need to give yourself some grace. Realize what your productive hours are, ask for help, and outsource. Surround yourself with a team of people who can help you grow.
  • If you have your phone next to you, you won’t get stuff done. Tara says that doesn’t serve her business or her family. You have to set up boundaries for yourself to put it down and put it away. The time that is unplugged, you will find with be your most productive and creative hours by far.
  • You have to invest in yourself. Tara talks about the fact that she used to buy supplies, and not think about a serious big investment. However, when she hired a coach, someone to hold her accountable, she was finally about to use that investment as her launching point for a successful business.

How to Build a Wildly Successful Community AND Be a Great Mom (with Ashley Meyer): Episode 091

How to Build a Wildly Successful Community AND Be a Great Mom (with Ashley Meyer): Episode 091

*This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link on this blog. I would never recommend a product I don’t use or love myself!

Episode 091:

Ashley Meyer, ESQ. was born with a fire in her spirit that shows up in everything she does (including her curly red hair!).

Ashley was born to be a lawyer. She spent years building her legal career, and when it came time to have children she was eager to find a community of moms she could relate to. But what she found didn’t quite work for her. She felt out of place when her worlds of work and life couldn’t coexist. Desperately searching for a space to be fully “her,” she came up empty-handed. So, she created Mommies Hiring Mommies, a community all about, and for, moms doing it all! And also has MOMpire and the MOMpire Podcast where she shares the inspiration and tools moms need to build sustainable businesses to support the life they love.

Supporting families through her legal practice is something Ashley is deeply passionate about.  With growth exploding daily, the MHM community empowers moms everyday, both in business and in life.

Takeaways:

  • Ashley shares that the start of her creating her own Facebook group was actually getting kicked out of a mom Facebook group. She learned so much about what she needed out of a group, and didn’t think the group allowed to be every version of herself anyway. That stressful situation sparked a fire in her to create a group where mom entrepreneurs could have a space where they could do business and get honest, real support. Sometime those setbacks lead us to our next big thing.
  • Ashley talks about a sense of community. When she was building her networking groups, she said moms would come to her from their towns asking for these groups. I think when you have something to offer a mass community of people, it will show. When you are attracting your clients, you know you’re doing something right. Everyone wants to connect, and get help, and Ashley has helped set up mom entrepreneurs up for success.
  • People crave the personal connection. This is so true, and the reason Ashley’s networking meetups are so important to her business. The online space gets entrepreneurs very far, but there is still that need for physical help sometimes.
  • Ashley talks about how she gives 100% to all aspects of her life. She doesn’t balance these different areas, she gives 100%. Her advice is to show up wherever you are. If you see an area lacking, revisit your schedule and see where you can make more room to fill that void so that area feels 100% again.
  • The most successful people Ashley sees are the ones who are MASSIVELY consistent. She says that this consistency comes from routines and systems that ends up leading to conversions.
  • Break your journey into little wins, a “Series of Stations”. If you’re only celebrating huuuuge successes, you’re going to find yourself waiting to celebrate. Celebrate tiny little successes so that every week, or every day has a victory. Enjoy the journey.

Highlights:

  • (0:02:18) A little more about Ashley Meyer.
  • (0:03:35) How getting kicked out of a Facebook group led Ashley to creating her own KILLER group.
  • (0:07:48) Networking groups Ashley has built. How did she do it, and how she made them grow efficiently throughout the country.
  • (0:12:46) Why Ashley’s business has grown so quickly?
  • (0:15:47) Ashley’s business model.
  • (0:18:15) What’s next in Ashley’s business.
  • (0:20:40) Why Ashley doesn’t believe in balance.
  • (0:27:01) How you can give 100% to being a mom as an entrepreneur.
  • (0:28:35) Mistakes Ashley sees mom-entrepreneurs making.
  • (0:36:35) Your life is a series of stations.
  • (0:38:29) What it means to Ashley to make an impact.
  • (0:40:58) Where to connect with Ashley!

Quotes:

“Really touching people and serving people is what can grow a business”

“If you don’t focus on the basics of relationships and connection, then you’re not going to succeed long term.”

“Nothing will ever replace a physical hug”

“Consistency is everything no matter what you’re doing”

“Focus on service, and the money is the byproduct”

“You’ll never reach the goal if you don’t enjoy the journey”
